Dr. Candice Chen is an Associate Professor at the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity. Her work focuses on the role of the health workforce and health professions education in addressing priority community needs such as primary care, practice in underserved communities, and diversity. She was previously the Director of the Division of Medicine and Dentistry in the Bureau of Health Workforce at the Health Resources and Services Administration, where she led programs to enhance training in primary care, oral health, and geriatrics, including graduate medical education programs in children’s hospitals and Teaching Health Centers. The Division’s programs focused on addressing health workforce needs, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Dr. Chen is also a board certified pediatrician, who continues to practice primary care in Southeast Washington, DC. She received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and her Masters of Public Health from the George Washington University with a concentration in Community Oriented Primary Care.
