There is no doubt that the Supreme Court’s verdict overturning Roe v. Wade has had a major detrimental impact on women’s health and healthcare more broadly. Health Justice Fellowship Application – Deadline Next Week!

The Beyond Flexner Alliance’s Health Justice Fellowship Program aims to nurture the talents of trainees who already show promise and commitment to advancing health justice in health professional training. Within this space, fellows hone their skills and broaden their networks in ways that will sustain them in pushing health professional institutions to be more socially accountable. The application for the 2022-2023 cohort of fellows is now open and more information can be found here. The deadline for applications is next Tuesday, August 16th, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST.

This past year our fellows had a chance to hone in their Op-Ed writing skills, social media advocacy skills, and organizing skills! See what some of our fellows had to say about this year’s program:

“The community, the guest speakers, camaraderie, our trip to Arizona for the conference, and the student assembly were some of the most valuable aspects! It is hard to pick one part since the entirety of the fellowship was invaluable and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

Montefiore Hospital System Shuts Down Family Health Center

On July 28, 2022, Montefiore Hospital System announced that it would close the Family Health Center (a family medicine residency clinic and Federally Qualified Health Center), move all staff and services to an existing family medicine clinic 2.5 miles away, and replace it with a non-teaching Internal Medicine and Primary Care Pediatrics Clinic. This decision to close the Family Health Center may negatively impact local Black, Latinx, and South East Asian communities that have utilized the comprehensive services offered there for the past 30 years.

As an organization committed to building a better, fairer health system and training health care professionals to be agents of meaningful change, we encourage you to explore this issue further.
