
Howard Straker

Dr. Howard Straker has been a physician assistant (PA) for more than 30 years with a career of service to patients, communities, and students. As a clinician, he has practiced in correctional, family, emergency and adolescent medicine settings in underserved communities of New York, Alaska, North Carolina and Maryland. He has also been a faculty member at several PA programs: City University of New York Harlem Hospital, University of Washington -MEDEX NW, Howard University and is currently at the George Washington University. There he directs the joint degree PA/MPH program as an associate professor of PA Studies in the School of Medicine and Health Science and Prevention & Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health. His teaching centers on preparing clinicians and public health practitioners to work in underserved communities, with courses on health disparities and health equity, community oriented primary care, and community engagement. He is a past president of the PA Educational Association and held various roles with community, academic organizations.
