Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

Domains: Pathways, Admissions, & Graduation, Students & Faculty,

Vanderbilt’s School of Medicine has a student-led Social Mission Committee that aims to improve health equity. The committee has advocated for social mission to be incorporated into the curriculum, partook in service in the Nashville area, mentored pre-medical students at HBCUs and established a Certificate in Health Equity, among other achievements.

Beyond the Social Mission Committee, Vanderbilt’s curriculum focuses on improving health care delivery and understanding patient experiences. Students are matched into one of four colleges led by faculty members and one of four learning communities to gain academic and emotional support as well as learn about policy and leadership. Students treat uninsured and underinsured patients at Shade Tree Clinic in Nashville.
