How Learners Can Get Involved

Through research, interviews, events, deep listening and constant learning, we are able to accelerate the work of Social Mission Alliance specifically through the student-led and future-focused initiatives at Social Mission Alliance.

Many of our team members are former conference attendees and leaders of our student initiatives. All are welcome.

> Student Initiatives

Our programs aim to increase the knowledge, skills, and interest in public health careers among diverse students. Social Mission Alliance is committed to developing and highlighting new initiatives that support students pursuing a health professions education. This is a place for lifelong learners and those committed to the values of the Movement.

> Student Assembly

In 2020, a team of BFA interns decided to launch the Beyond Flexner Alliance Student Assembly – a student centered arm of BFA, focused on bringing together interdisciplinary health profession students passionate about social mission. Launching in the fall of 2020, the student assembly will serve as a resource to bring students together to promote social mission, network, and organize around health equity.

Student Assembly members have the opportunity to be involved in advocacy efforts, communication strategies, and outreach activities. Additionally, all members have access to the Social Mission Alliance network, a community of like-minded people sharing experiences, joining various projects, and vast resources.

In an effort to promote health equity and interprofessional education, the Student Assembly seeks to collaborate with other organizations and groups. We are always open to partnerships, activities, and events in the future. Please feel free to reach out with any collaboration or promotion ideas.

> Health Justice Fellowship

The Health Justice Fellowship Program is a new initiative that seeks to create a dynamic community dedicated to nurturing an insurgent politic among the next generation of leaders in healthcare that represent the values, perspectives, and wisdom of the those greatest affected by systems of oppression, those that have historically been barred from the academy and the health professions. The program is dedicated to nurturing the talents of trainees who already show promise and commitment to advancing health justice in society and social mission in health professional training. The yearlong fellowship will allow participants to hone their skills, provide them with new skills, and broaden their networks in ways that will help sustain them in their future work.
