National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) and Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA)

NPhA aims to represent “the views and ideals” of minority pharmacists, promote racial and health equity, and advance the standard of pharmaceutical care. The student branch, SNPhA, was founded by students at historically Black colleges and universities to “plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of the health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.” Both share the goal of increasing the number of pharmacists from marginalized communities.

NPhA makes health policy recommendations and provides community service opportunities, continuing education and career support. NPhA also provides scholarships to SNPhA members. The Bridging the Gap program between NPhA and SNPhA provides students with pharmacist mentors. SNPhA also has a variety of service initiatives including those for diabetes education, stroke prevention and immunization. The Legislative and Membership initiative aims to ensure 90% of the organization’s members are registered to vote and promote civic engagement among pharmacy students and their respective communities.
