Morehouse College is a historically Black university that describes themselves as committed to diversity. Community health is embedded into the MD curriculum. About 70% of graduates of the School of Medicine go into primary care, and students receive rural health training at the Columbus location. MD and PA students are placed into learning communities with faculty mentors to foster relationships and support academic growth.

The Office for Educational Outreach and Health Careers provides enrichment opportunities for K-12 students, including community health worker training and exposure to health careers, and pathway programs for undergraduate and post baccalaureate students. Graduates engage with prospective students of all ages through the Alumni Learning Community

Morehouse School of Medicine was the 2016 recipient of the Macy Award for Institutional Excellence in Social Mission and cohosted the 2018 Beyond Flexner Conference (now Social Mission Alliance Conference).
